The time flies

I didn't get my Illustration Friday project finished!!
Ah well, I'll try again this week with 'Theater'. Have to think of something to draw ... meanwhile the Anzac weekend went too quickly. Mike and I did a big walk yesterday, through New Farm Park and along the river all the way into the City. He took lots of photos practising with his new camera (I'll post some that I took up during the week). We went to the markets down at the Powerhouse at New Farm - great produce, some yummy waffles and many things we would have liked to buy if we had a vehicle to transport them home again! I ended up with two light objects - a Tenugui (a Japanese hand towel which I think I'll re-purpose as a neck tie or head scarf) and a pair of little button hair pins.
Mike also made Anzac biscuits in honour of Anzac Day, remembering the sacrifice our Australian (and New Zealand) men and women have made in war. Lest we forget.
Illustration Friday - Fleeting

I've always wanted to participate in this. I've missplaced my scanner in our recent move (likely to be languishing in a cardboard box), so had to take a photo of the watercolour/pencil result instead. Never mind! Continuing along my recent Bird-y theme, here's a little fellow whose appearance would always be 'Fleeting'. He could take off at any second ...
Superb Fairy Wrens
From In-Progress to Finished, native Superb Fairy Wrens (we used to have these guys frolicking outside our apartment in the bushes and would see them on our courtyard from time to time!). I haven't painted anything in a very long while, my full-time work and spending time with my partner (as well as all the usual household chores) tend to leave me with little time to get artistic. Thankfully at one stage I got organised and motivated enough to start this piece. It's evolved slowly over a number of weeks - I've not rushed it and just only painted when I had a spare moment. It's a watercolour (I tend to layer up the paint, drybrush-watercolour style). It didn't turn out exactly as I'd planned (a bit too 'gold' perhaps? And not a defined enough light source ...) but I am pleased to have at least finished it!

Chocolate and Hot Cross Buns

Happy Bilby Day! In Australia we have started to replace the beautiful Easter Bunny with our own native replica, the Easter Bilby. Same long ears, but a bit smaller, pointier and a lot more endangered. My Mum sends us delicious Haigh's chocolates every year (it's a South Australian company and we believe the best chocolate ever!). This Easter she's popped a copy of Country Style in too for some holiday reading. Hope you enjoy the extra long weekend.

6 days to rest

I'm hoping to get some blogging done over the holidays, though there hasn't been much happening to note, I'd love to get the blog going on a more regular basis! I guess it's a good spot to post some recent art I've been playing with as well as any new projects I start. We have a new camera too, a Canon EOS 40D, so we'll organise a flickr group and pop some images up on that too. I love Easter holidays, better in SA though with the Autumn colours and deliciously cool days. I've been attempting to wear scarves up here, which is truly ridiculous considering even putting on a pair of jeans is still an exercise in sweating. But I love the multitude of pretty scarves out for Winter, and intend to buy more (even if they only make their debut on holidays in Adelaide!).
